So, with less than 48 hours to go until recording starts, things are looking good, even if I am getting a little nervous. The final test run went well yesterday, so it’s just a case of getting all the final preparations sorted now!

Three days in to the project, and I’m delighted to say that everything is going very well.  I’ve been writing like mad in all my spare time and so far I’ve managed to get 7 songs that I’m happy with.

My good friend Satch (who’s helping on the 9th) is coming over on Sunday to get to grips with what I’ve written by that point, so hopefully I’ll have all 9 done by then.

I’ll stick up the lyrics at some point.  Please keep checking back, and continue to spread the word!

Test run two happened today, despite my muscles aching for the entire day!  Managed to get the studio set up in about 20 minutes, which bodes extremely well.

This time I re-recorded “Different Colours”, which is a bit longer and more intricate.  Managed to get it recorded, mixed and exported in 55 minutes.  Of course I know these songs inside out, so they’re easier to record.  I need to get on and write as much as possible in the next few days.  I’ve set up a way of recording demo versions as I write, which means that when I’m happy with the songs, I’ll have a basic recording of them to listen to over and over again and make sure I know them as well as I can before the proper recording.

So, to do this project successfully, the studio is going to have to be set up and ready for me to start recording dead on 9am.  With that in mind I ran a test run at setting up the studio today.  It’s the first of at least two, but hopefully 3 test runs, so that I can make all the mistakes in those, rather than on the 9th!

The studio set up includes my brand new microphone, bought especially for the project, and is lovely and shiny and many many other things, all of them good!  If you’re interested in these things, it’s one of these: http://www.seelectronics.com/sE2000.html

The studio took about 90 minutes to set up, but considering I was setting it up for the first time, that’s not bad, and the amount of set up time will improve the more I practice.  I’m guessing that it’ll take about 45 minutes to set it all up, but there’s quite a bit of stuff that I can do the night before to prepare!

Anyhoo, to test the recording process I made a new recording of “Footsteps”, which an old song from my first solo album “Start From Scratch”.  I managed to record a decent sounding version within 30 minutes, so I’m a bit more confident that the 9 songs is doable.  I’ll be uploading the new version over the weekend, so check back and you’ll be able to download it!
